![]() That's ok around the campfire, but not on a forum. To sum it up, too many of us, including me, tend to talk about things we don't know much about as if we did. The engineers that design these bikes know what they are doing, so do the folks that run the company - (i am talking about Yamaha here) Flashing an complicated existing design is not for the un-initiated. (that is what Tune-Ups are for.) Yamaha makes good bikes, imo. Someone hear already said it: for most internal combustion engines, a good flash will provide the best of what an engine is capable of. I guess if you own a company and feed your family with the profit you make you take what you can get - and let the buyer beware. Sellers of motorycle materal know that bikers today have more money than sense. For internal combustion engines, emission standards play a big part in ECU control, and it appears the e-standards are responsible for conditions that may be good from a emissions control perspective, but not from a performance perspective. Can you imagine the complexity involved in writing a new BIOS/UEFI code?Īuto makers frequently update ECU/ECMs on their cars as improvements are recognized and fixes are needed. If you use a PC, you know what a flash is very time a BIOS/UEFI is updated.Think of flashing is an improvement to brain of your computer. Again, it's not something that you can hook a laptop up to and change the fueling without sending it back, but once it is spot on for a certain exhaust system, there really isn't much need to go back into it and make changes.Ī good flash can only be built by someone with an thorough knowledge of (in this case) the specific bike and at least, a basic knowledge of how things work. on the FZ09 ECU for $80 for some of the more basic stuff, which is a lot less expensive than adding a fuel controller type management system. One of our supporting vendors on the FZ09 forum that I also moderate, will do a R.F. Re-flashing an ECU doesn't always have to be a more expensive option. And when, someone finally breaks into the ECU and figures it out, that will become a viable option for fuel management also. I'm guessing that if a person's only interest is changing the fueling because of the addition of an after market, then currently (as far as I know) fuel controllers of various makes is the only logical answer. The 07 will fit in nicely to some of the amateur racing brackets and of course there are always a certain number of folks that will mod the bike just because they can. Some of the things that I mentioned in regard to the 07 will likely be considered by the flash tuners, but I don't think there will be nearly as much urgency as there was with the 09. Of course the 07 isn't a ride by wire setup like the 09 is, so the throttling issue is pretty much non-existent. The FZ07 on the other hand seems to be on the other end of the spectrum and Yamaha got it "right" this time. The FZ09, almost as soon as it came out was universally thought to be in need of something different for the throttle response "issues", thus a sense of urgency bubbled to the top pretty quickly. just a fuel controller, but you still have to weigh in the cost of each and determine which one of the methods will work best for you. The FZ09 come with a 132 MPH top speed limiter also, and that can be disabled, although at the time I had mine done, they had not figured out how to do that, so mine is still top speed limited, which doesn't really matter to me since the FZ is not my track bike Lots and lot of options for the flashing method vs. I also had the flash take care of the start up mode (it now defaults to "A" mode instead of "STD" on start up), and the fuel cutoff on closed throttle was disabled, which makes the bike's throttle a lot less touchy/jerky, when getting back on the throttle after closing it. Fueling was matched to the Arrow full system I'm running (without the D.B. ![]() and the difference between stock and R.F. a R.F.but, if the ECU is flashed properly, based on dyno testing for a particular exhaust, you aren't going to be changing the mapping anyway.so it's kind of a moot point. The one true advantage to using a fuel controller instead of flashing the ECU is that you can change the mapping a lot easier with a fuel controller vs.
